Here’s the rock which was used to make the thin section in day 15 of the Geo Advent Calendar. This was collected from a poorly exposed outcrop near the shore of Loch Assynt in Scotland.
|Full Description||Lewisian gneiss with one cut and polished side (was used to make thin section C0086). Rich in quartz and plagioclase with minor amounts of biotite and amphibole and olivine. This is a type of orthogneiss. The protolith had a tonalitic composition and an age of 3.03-2.96Ga which was metamorphosed in the granulite facies|
